So...how do you feel about Peter Jackson saying 'no' to directing Red Eagle's production of the Eye of the World movie?

Hmmm..didn't know about it until now. Do you have an article that you can link us to?
But, If I had already done a big-budget fantsy trilogy I wouldn't do another set of the same kind of thing...
And maybe he just doesn't like or know much of Wheel of Time? I dunno...

no i can't find the actual quote, but here's one that kind of responded to it and says the same thing:
"Its been 2 years now without word on the potential movie’s progess (although I did get a response well over a year ago from Red Eagle that they had been working on a director..Peter Jackson had no interest in the project). I know it takes time, but it would be nice to hear tidbits, which can be done without disclosing critical information." -Jason K (worked for the New Spring Comic which worked for Red Eagle which is the one with the movie rights. I think I got that all right.)

ok so...I asked Red Eagle a question about the possible movie and this was their response to me:
"There are a lot of moving parts to our film production of “The Eye of the World.” To make a picture, we must forge a series of complex business relationship among a number of necessary parties. First, we begin with the author, and then expand our relationships to include a diverse number of participants in the film project: a director, screenwriters, a production designer, co-producers, actors, financial investors, and last but not least, a major studio partner.
This is no hobby and the team at Red Eagle Entertainment is at this full time. And while there are no “sure things” in the film business, we certainly like our chances of success. As we have said earlier, we will undergo another couple of months of self-imposed silence during the final deal-making stages, but then, we expect to have much to say about our film project once the final, critical pieces have been put into in place."
wow, they actually replied. Not only that, but, nice response there.

Yeah, it really looks like they're working hard to make a movie out of it.
do you think movies would be better, or a miniseries, or even TV series with 1 hour episodes?

I think what would be best is a GRAND OPENING type of movie for Eye of the World, that leads into a mini series for the rest of the books. That way, it really doesn't matter how long the movie is and then they don't have to worry about making tons of other long movies. Plus, the books are fairly easy to put into television 'seasons'.

wait.....do you mean like a made-for-tv movie as an intro and then episodes from there??

No, I mean, they should make a full-length movie for Eye of the World, and let THAT one hit the theatres. But that movie will end as a 'needs to be continued' for the rest of the series...and the REST of the series would go on television. Like one of those "one hour" a day shows. Or probably when it starts out, more like one hour a week. Kind of like 'The Legendary Journey of Hercules". That had a movie, AND a series.

Thank goodness that he has said no, though I really doubt he would have been considered among the most interesting directors.
He's simply not nearly good enough for such a complex story, especially not one so character driven.

In your opinion, who would make a good director for the film? I have a feeling it's going to be someone younger, i don't know.

My first choice would be Joss Whedon, hands down. My second choice would be myself:D

Of course. Well, at least I'd be able to make it the way I want it. I suppose some other people may not agree with my ideas, but heck, as long as I'm happy:D
As long as it was a series, I don't think I would make good movies, I like long build-up sequences rather than the high pace most movies use, if I made movies they'd probably end up 5-6 hours long.

haha yes i agree with you there, these movies really would need to be very long...but no one would want to sit through that other than die-hard WoT fans. As for a WoT movie...i'm curious, what sort of music would you prefer hearing in it? Like, a movie soundtrack. Any particular artists or composers? What would the 'feel' of the music be if it were up to you?

Music? Mostly a mix of various traditional music from Europe, mainly Ireland, Scandinavia, Normandy, but also influences from other regions, like the Middle East, Greece, Russia, China, Japan, Tibet etc, creating distinct styles for the different nations. All played on traditional instruments.
The feel of the music should be that it's something that the characters could have actually played themselves. Absolutely no modern music, or popular artists.
