i love tolkiens style of writing...he puts in so much detail and he writes as if the things are actuallly happening; a real converstaion that the people would have. And his detail is amazing...I mean the silmarillion is just mind-blowing

lol, Tolkien is not even close to RJ when it comes to details. As for story telling...RJ is a bit more adult in his style

well, if you've only read one chapter of WoT, your opinion is more or less irrelevant. Read the books, or don't compare them.

(oops.... kinda forgot bout this thread....)
I agree with Majsju, I think that RJ is more of an adult aimed style............with all the hidden plots, and back stories,
Just make's the world live that there are so many different back stories, plot twists, it just makes the world more alive.
No offense to JRRT but his world just seems to end, and no one really has much of a past that I could see.....
then again, just the humble opinion of the future world dominator........or should that be dominatrix? ;D

I've read LotR more than 10 times, and all the background like the silmarillion, hobbit, lost tales etc., and I lovw it! It's a great story, and there is a lot of detail involved, it is the greatest fantasy book ever written BUT, I've read the WoT series 4 times and doing it again at the moment, and as a series, it has much more detail, each of the 10 books is 3/4 the size of LotR!!! As for the style, it's definitely more involved, where JRR explains everything, RJ goes for different points of view, so readers can see how the characters interact on a much more personal level. JRR wrote a story of good vs evil and wrote it well, RJ is writing a story of one good vs another vs a neutral vs an evil vs a greater evil, and is writing it well. Both are brilliant, WoT is more interesting (probably cos I've too much free time so prefer the longer one!)
