The sun shines bright over the field that has been cleared especially for this occasion. An archery range has been set up across the field, with the targets at a total of 100 feet. A gentle wind blows as the adjudicators make their way over to the stands.
A slim silver haired male elf sits at a table on which perches a sign saying "Enrolments here."
Kamiri strides down to the field, her long bow in hand and quiver of specially chosen arrows slung across her shoulder. She moves with the easy grace of the elven kind. Arriving at the table, she grins at her friend seated at the table "Sign me up!" she says brightly
Talgas looks up at her, squinting into the sun. He scowls "That's not fair. You won last year."
Kamiri's grin broadens. "So I deserve a chance to protect my title." She takes the quill out of his hand and signs her name on the page with a flourish. With a final grin, she moves over to the stands to wait for more competitors to arrive

Minya strides up to the table after watching Kamiri step aside and clears her throat. "I'd like to sign up as well!" She fiddles with the arrow 'feathers' protruding from her quiver and then grips her bow tightly within her palm.

Talgas glances up. "Sure." He offers the paper and quill. "Good luck." Lazily, he stretches back in his chair

Calenfalathiel approaches the sign-up table, then looks at the list. She sees that last year's champion has entered the contest this year.
"Oh boy..." she says quietly.
"Well, I'm gonna attempt this thing...may I sign up?"

A mysterious and dark cloaked figure strides in, hood held loosely over its head, shading his eyes. Strong and muscular arms grasp the bow and quiver that rests on his shoulder tightly as he steps over to the table. In a raspy voice he speaks:
"I'm here for the archery competition" His large and muddied boots shift beneath his weight.

"Thanks" She takes the quill and with a flick of the wrist, signs herself up. Replacing the quill in his hand, she glances over at the mysterious, hooded man standing before her. "Hmm, competition I see. No matter, I won Mirkwood's archery contest last year, I suppose I could easily do it again."

A hysterical laughter fills the air. Zig comes falling through the air and lands right next to the table. "Well, so far my accuracy with the giant town slingshot works.." Zig steps up and signs his name. "I'm sure to win with a bow."

Kamiri glanced over at the sign up table, grinning as she saw all her fellow competitors. It looked like this was going to be fun. She took up her longbow, which was a little taller than her height when unstrung. Tucking the bowstring around the bottom, she set it against the instep of her foot, reaching up and using all her weight to pull the top down far enough to stretch the string over the other end. Task complete, she stretched the string bck to her cheek a few times experimentally to limber the wood up
actually Minya, I'd already said I'd won last year... maybe you won the year before and were too busy last year to compete?
Talgas offered the quill to each candidate in succession, eyeing hem up and down to guage their skill level

Ok ~~shrugs~~
Thranduil, King of Mirkwood strode down onto the field. The watching elves each bowed to him slightly, in reverence of his status among them. Taking his seat, Thranduil nodded to the commentator, showing the it was ok for them to begin
Kamiri grinned at her uncle, but waited patiently enough for the competition to begin
Sorry, don't have time to really start today, will have to postpone until Tuesday evening for most of you people...

Eliwen waved to Thranduil, wondering briefly where Legolas was. She then turned to listen to what the commentator was saying.

Hello everyone. (Kamiri, can you please clarify on exactly how we will do this contest?)
Rina enters. "I would like to participate in the contest, but not be a contestant, for I usually prefer to stay out of contests. Is there a way I can become some sort of helper here? Perhaps the one who aids in administrating the contest? Or at least be of some use? Please?"

The commentator moved to the front of the stands, clearing his throat awkwardly. "Welcome all to the Annual Mirkwood Archery Trials. Competitors please note that you each have two practice shots to begin from the 50 yard mark. You then have three attempts at the target from the 50 yard, 75 yard and 100 yard marks until all competitors are eliminated save the winner. Rounds will begin at the 50 yard mark with each competitor taking their three shots. Competitors will be eliminated if they miss the target at any shot, or if they fail to hit the bullseye with any of their three shots. Also remember that as defending champion, it is last year's winner's right to shoot last." The commentator paused to allow th information to sink in.
"Competitors please line up for your practice shots."
Kamiri glanced up towards the forest, wondering where her cousin, Legolas was. Although he had decided not to compete again this year, she had hoped he would at least come to watch
Rina, there is a new member 'maestoso' who may be going to judge the competition, but do you want to help her with that? I don't know how often she will be able to get online... Unlike me, she actually has a life and doesnt live in a box...

Minya steps up to the line as she fiddles with one of her arrows. Her fingers twitched with anticipation.
