This is just a short piece that I wrote to go with a picture I drew yesterday. I'm going to try and scan it onto the computer, but my scanner won't work with the computer anymore, so I'm not sure how long it will take. Also, I apologize in advance - it is on lined paper because I hadn't expected to do anything else with it once it was drawn.

… And then the tears came, think and fast, pouring down the smooth cheeks; proud head that once inspired the title of ‘Majesty’ bowed as though the weight of a thousand lives bore it towards the ground. She had been beautiful once, the one called Ailen, but time, that great unfathomable mystery had taken her in its clinging grip, loosening her skin and stealing the spring from her step so that she now walked with a deliberate dignity. But the glitter of her eye still shone with a fierce resilience, hinting at the spirit that remained hidden within the slowly crumbling shell. She breathed one deep, shaking breath, then another, and another; gasping as though somehow the very air itself could remove her pain. But it was still there, an icy lump that weighed in her stomach and bit at the back of her throat. There would be no escape to this torment – it would haunt her until her heart beat its final note…
