Admin note: Some of this applies, some of it doesn't, but it's good to have up here regardless. Just ignore the WoT stuff and replace it with what we ARE doing.
So, I've cleaned up this messy board, si it's all tidy and nice, waiting for new rpg:s to begin. I've put up a thread for characters (as you may see it's locked, the idea is that you pm me your bio, I'll either approve, ask for modifications, or in extreme cases simply tell you to make a new one, if it seems impossible to change, and when it's approved I put it up.
Here are some of the rules. They will be modified, so it's not a final version.
Stick to the books. See what the world looks like, what kind of technology are there? What kind of people can I include? Seanchan for example, are at this point not unified, and can therefore not show up all of a sudden. There are no Ashaman, Saidin is tainted so male channelers will either be hunted down by Aes Sedai, or go mad and die. I will be very restrictive when it comes to allowing male channelers, if someone manages to convince me there's a bloody good reason, I might approve of one, but don't count on it. Naturally the same things apply to lotr. If it contradicts the books, it's automatically a no-no.
Dealing with other people. Remember that it's interaction, you can't rolepley unless you listen to what the other persons are doing. To kill another persons character is strictly forbidden, unless that person allows it (and tells me that it is allowed). Also, don't be a jerk. Of course there are situations where hostility is strong between characters, but it is possible to deal with that in more civilized ways.
Your character is not a super-being. Even a Warder can't take on more than a couple of trollocs, what makes you think you could? Aes Sedai have not discovered Travel yet, so if you're doing something dangerous, have a horse at hand. NO FREAKING GODDING HERE!!!
This is an rpg after all, so some things are allowed, even if they're not in the books. Wolf-brothers for example. According to the books, Elyas is the first in this Age. But, I will accept one, maybe two. But not right away, so even if you put that in your character-bio, it doesn't mean that you'll have the ability when you start playing. This might be because someone else already have that talent.
Which leads me into the next area. Some things, like wolf-brothers, darkfriends, and some stuff concerning Aes Sedai will be kept at a strict need-to-know basis. Which means that there might be darkfriends strolling around freely, and if they don't screw up, they won't get caught. I will set up a private darkfriends-thread in the future, where they can plan perform their evil deeds.
To make the rpg more fun, there are a few things that is could to think about.
Write in third person. For example:
Zievlan Riosh sighed. The Mountains of Mist were always harder on the horse than on the rider, but he had almost hoped making it to Caemlyn. He patted Wind one last time, and stood up. This was not a time for grief.
Think about your language. Some people uses rpg to improve their writing skills. I'm not asking you to do that, or to write perfectly. But, the better the writing, the easier it is to follow what it is that you want to say. But at the same time, remember that not all people have english as their native language (myself one of them), and have some patience with us when something sounds a little weird And try to write more than a single paragraph.
Character. You may under no circumstances play as a character from the books. If you can't be creative enough to make one of your own, maybe roleplaying isn't such a great idea...And don't think I won't find out if you try to sneak someone in.
I've used wot as an example, basically because that world is far more complex than lotr, and therefore needs pointing out things more clearly. But of course everything applies to lotr as well.
These are the rules so far. But if anyone has something to add, or complain about, I always listen, and if you can convince me a change is a good idea, I'll go for it.
When at least a few people have signed up I will create Training Grounds and a Duel Ground. And when I see the Training Grounds running smoothly I will create a more serious rpg. I have some ideas about both wot and lotr that I'm playing around with...
Finally, I want this thread pretty clean, so don't post anything that doesn't concern the rules or more administrative issues about the rpg. For all other discussion, there's a brand new thread for that.
