The theory about the minds eye is interesting, but I don't believe in it.
The brain controls what we are able to see with our eyes. Meaning that a channeller has something in their brain telling them that there are a weave there, thus providing them with the ability to see it, but with their eyes. The ability itself has nothing to do with the eyes, they are just a tool.
BTW, have we ever heard of a blind channeler?

Ah, I remember, one of the Aes Sedai had a block and couldn't channel without her eyes closed, which meant it was impossible, she had the ability but couldn't do anything. I'm a psychology student so I've done a lot of study on the brain and how it works, I like the idea of the brain being different, and it is possible, but in effect it is the same thing as the mind's eye, stilling would have to physically change the brain... Channellers see the weaves represented in physical space, they can wrap a flow around a person, so they are definitely seeing it, not just imagining what it would look like. It could be something like seeing different wave lengths of light, infra red and ultra violet, not the same, obviously but the principle of having a brain adapted to see what others cannot is cool. The simple fact is that RJ probably never thought about whether eyes change or the brain controls it, he just came up with a different and innovative way to control "magic". When Nynaeve healed stilling, she described a hole, a sense of emptyness, which she bridged. Obviously this is not a physical hole in the brain, it is a hole in the mind (ooooh philosophy...). If RJ is using the existence of a mind to channel, this debate is pretty pointless...

Hmmmmm........
Alright so the physical change thing is something I have thought on......
Alright a stilling cuts something severs a persons connection to the OP, now when I was thinking of this,I realised that any extra sensory thing, it comes with using more of your brain, so I thought that maybe it is done with the mind, like Majsju was saying, but it does not physically change the brain when you are stillled/gentled.
The theory that I cam up with on the brain matter, (ew, brain matter...lol) was that maybe the part of the brain that allows you to see the weaves, is sort of cut off from the rest of the brain you are no longer able to access that part of the brain. Sort of like amnesia, a whole in the memory.

So that would make unstilling (?) actual healing, bridging the gap between the seperate parts? I dunno, of course the biology of RJs world could be different than ours, but if it is, and he has put a part of the brain aside for channellers, why not just say it? Why say that Rand can feel Alanna, Min et al. "in the back of his head"? Is there a part of the brain for bonding?
