The Riddle Game

An old elf sits in a corner of the small room by the fire. Although his physical appearance does not reflect his age, just a single glance in his eye will speak of the years he has dwelt in the world - indeed, he seems wise enough to have seen the very dawning of the world at Cuiviénen. He gazes somberly at the dim room around him, hands resting in his lap as he sits in the highbacked chair by the fire, as he has done for the past hundred years. In truth, it is his mind that moves rather than his body, passing back over the world he has known; the world he knows now.

You may wonder what business such a wise one has, still on the shores of Middle Earth. But looking at him, at the glint in his eye that still shows his love of mischief, you know that he is the one you seek within these halls. He is the Riddle Master, although he has had many other names in his lifetime, waiting to play the game with any who come before him seeking his company.

Ok, so I don't want to be running this game all the time, so I'll stick in an extra clause: It is whoever guesses the answer to the riddles that can post the next one, and there anyone is able to answer the riddles at any time. Each person has three guesses for each riddle, although I don't anticipate that they will go that far to begin with. It's up to whoever posted the riddle to inform the person who first gave the correct answer. Also, clues should not have to be given. If players are unable to answer the riddle, they should forfeit. If all current players have forfeited, or taken their three guesses, the giver of the riddle can tell us the answer, and have another go.
