Most good directors are pretty specialized in what kind of movies they make. And while people like David Lynch, Roman Polanski, Sofia Coppola, Lasse Hallström, Quentin Tarantino etc are amazing when working with "their" kind of movies, I can't see any of them working with this kind of story.

Nope, which is a good thing. Fantasy is a very special genre, where the director has to create a little universe of his own, to live in for the entire making of the film. So having a director that has been doing other fantasy before would mean a great risk of the earlier movies sipping in. Otherwise I would've been interested in the guy who directed Harry Potter 3. He's relatively unknown, did a great job with that movie and shows some real potential.
What Joss Whedon HAS done, however, is to show that he manages the entire spectrum, from grand battle scenes to touching love scenes, and he's great at making the actors really becoming their characters. (Ok, in Buffy he had an amazing cast to work with, which naturally helps. A lot of them are actors I would be interested to see in a WOT "movie", but that's another story...)

Wow, it seems you have been thinking about this for quite some time now. I only know a few of those, but they do seem to fit the part. Any thoughts on who should play the main characters such as Egwene, Rand, Mat, Perrin, Nyneave...etc. etc? Someone suggested Kiera Knightly play Egwene *shrug*.

Well, the main characters should all be played bu unknown actors. Which disqualifies Keira Knightley.

hmmm i haven t heard of about half of those people, but some of them seem ok. i just cant see drew barrymoore and alyssa milano and some other pple making that big of a commitment to it. and i also dont think that over half those acters would bother to take the time to really truly read and understand the books. and i think that if this were to become a project it would take a very long time, and i know all the famos pple are having plastic surgery, but really, by the time that filming began over half of those pple will have changed dramatically. and i think that this project would need to be played be an almost all unfamous cast.
cuz thats one thing that really piggyes me off is that brad pitt and orlando bloom and sean bean were all in the same movie and all and sean did a great job, orlando did a so-so job, but brad pitt wasn t that great and everyone loves him and thought he did great cuz he is "hot". and now colin ferral is going to be alexander the great....grrrrr that makes me mad. so i really dont want to be mad at the casting director for this (if it hapens) and we need to give a break to acters who are trying to make it, give 'em a chance i say.
and i think that it would be cool if it was a movie, but there is almost no way it could hapen. but i think a tv thingie would be awesome. and if it does happen i hope that the dont skimp out...there is a reason there are 10 books SO FAR.
btw, i think it would be awesome if sean connary played thom!!
"A few other I want in, but haven't found a character for: Alyson Hannigan, Patrik Stewart, Lauren Graham, Michael Rosenbaum, Jewel Slaite, Scarlett Johansson... " < shouldnt we be looking for acters to the parts not parts to the acters?

Hey Gang. I'm new to this forum. I've read through 8 of the books awhile back, and i've just started rereading eye of the world. I'd love to hear everyones opinions on who they think could possibly play any of the characters. I like making collages/wallpapers as a hobby during my free time, and i wanted to make a collage for each of the WoT books after i've read through them. the only problem is finding images, and for that, i need actors faces Any suggestions/additions to that previous list of actors that was posted? i'll add my 2 cents al'Lan Mandragoran - Clive Owen

ok, a little help
James marsters - Most known as Spike in Buffy Morena Baccarin - I've only seen her in Firefly Gary Oldman - should be obvious Tom Cruise - obvious as well Nicole Kidman - Oh yeah, she too Stellan Skarsgård - Latest part as Cedric in King Arthur, though his best movie is Breaking The Waves Emma Caulfield - Anya in Buffy Dave Grohl - Drummer in Nirvana, lead guitar and vox in Foo Fighters. Have shown some pretty darn good acting skills in the videos Drew Barrymore - Little girl from ET has grown up... John Glover - Lex Luthors dad in Smallville Pete Steel - Singer in Type O Negative. Could probably make a real myrdraal wet his pants just by looking at him. And Shaidar Haran isn't exactly a role that demands acting skills... Anthony Hopkins - obvious
Adam Baldwin - One of the Baldwins, probably the best actor of them Ron Glass - Firefly Sean Penn - again obvious Emma Thompson - see above Rose McGowan - One of the Charmed Sean Connery - The Real James Bond Kelly Bishop Grandma Gilmore in Gilmore Girls Julian McMahon - Cole in Charmed Gillian Anderson - our fav FBI agent Alyssa Milano - another Charmed Steve Buschemi and another obvious guy...
