i seriously think that JK Rowling, the maker of the Harry Potter books (just in case you are really blunt), plagerized Tolkien. And i seriously think that she did: Here is my reasons: 1. Aragog-Aragorn....any resemblances??? 2. Spiders??? (the hobbit and aragog) 3. orphans??? (frodo and harry) and many others that i cannot think of at the moment... can you guys think of any??? I am taking this seriously because it makes me sick about how many **resemblances** there are...its not just that i hate harry potter...its just that it all sounds so fake...i mean how korny-she had a dream about it and wrote it down on a napkin??? COME ON!! and the books are written by someone who obviously does not know how to write...there is like no detail...it is horrible Don't even get me started on the movies...the movies were horrible also...horrible casting...horrible scenery...i could tell when the things were fake and when there were doubles and when there was bluescreen! COME ON! you have got to be kidding me!!!! It also hurts me that The lord of the rings and Harry potter are sometimes put in the same article or the same topic...they are totally different in size! it makes me sick...i am sorry if any of you are fans...but...uhh...the movies and books are horrible! it is like an insult to even have these same movies in the same sentence! OMG! We must avenge the name of TOLKIEN!!!!!!! DOWN WITH POTTER!!!! MELLONS!! COME ON!!! Namarie, for the moment

I don't care for Harry Potter much either. I think it was a decnet book, but not...legendary, shall we say. There are some similarites from HP to LOTR, but I don't think we need to be quite so mean about pointing them out. I mean, who can blame J.K. anyway? Just my thoughts...
Another similarity: Karkorof- Evil wizard Carcharoth- Evil wolfhound of Morgoth
But I think the books that have more similaritys are the Shanara series by Terry Brooks. My friend made me read them, and they were just cheap copies of LOTR, right down to the mysteryious stranger that turns out to be King to a wandering wizard that prompts the main character on his quest.

Uhm, basically every fantasy novel after Tolkien is strongly influenced by him. Jordan, Goodkind, Martin, Jones...So, it's not plagiarism, it's just that Tolkien is such a huge person in fantasy that it's impossible to write without being influenced by him

I think Harry Potter can be fairly amusing at times. It is though a book that one does not need to think much while reading. It's more like mindless distraction, not quality reading like LotR or WoT.

oh my gosh yes! Shannara is complete plagerism!!! Terry Brooks stole the entire thing from LotR! Allanon- Gandalf Shea-Frodo Flick-Sam
when allanon falls into the furnace.......gandalf falling into that pit when fighting the balrog
and a lot more i can list if you guys want me to.

oh yes, Shannara is seriously almost identical to LOTR...the Sword is like the Ring and there are also a lot more resemblences that i can't remember right now...but it seriously is the same thing as LOTR, only Terry Brooks changed the character names, places, and such.
