I'm just wondering what you guys think Legolas is. I think he is Sindar, but a lot of people say Silvan, so I'm confused.  |

Oh, I just read something about that! He's Silvan, I think. Umm... You can take a look at this page, and see for yourself. What do you think? I always thought he was Sindar, since his father was, and we don't really know when he was born... Heh, and the Encyclopedia of Arda isn't exactly helpful, since they are faced with the same problem.

"Thranduil was a Sindarin Elf who originally came from Doriath, but Legolas always identifies himself as Silvan, not Sindar. Presumably he had some Silvan ancestry, and probably his mother was Silvan. It may also indicate that he has spent the majority of his life mixing with Silvan Elves as one of their number."
I guess that means he's considered to be Silvan...

To me, it would really depend what his mother was, and when he was born. (I've learned a few things since I first posed this question.  ) I agree with Calen's quote, that he probably is Silvan, but even if he is just identifying himself as Silvan, it doesn't necessarily make it true. |

Haha, I maintain the fact that it would depend on his mother, but unfortunately we know nothing about her. But if Legolas identifies himself as Silvan, than I assume his mother was as well... And besides, if Legolas was not born in Doriath, he would not be Sindar.
